About

Don't Fence Me In

image2

Not tied to a particular genre, Kate Howard prefers to try a variety of styles on for size. Kate is more pop than folk, but she can also be jazzy and is known to rock out on occasion. She creates memorable characters with warped minds and shattered hearts. Whether the song is funny, poignant, or a combo platter, Kate’s performance is always honest and captivating.

Select Yourself. Create Destiny

As a girl in Savannah, GA, Kate was in choir for 7 years. She longed to perform solo or in a duo or trio but was never selected. At age 48, she started singing backup vocals for Austin musicians. At age 50, Kate wrote her first song. At age 55, she's written over 100 tunes; plays gigs fairly often; and is preparing to release her debut album. She's opened for Hamell on Trial thrice as well as for Billy Harvey,  Jaimee Harris, Seela, and Beat Root Revival.

What People Are Saying

Jon Dee Graham (thrice inducted into Austin Music Hall of Fame) calls Kate "the Dorothy Parker of Austin". Tony Scalzo (Wrenfro, Fastball) says of Ms. Howard, “Her lyrics take you to a place no other songwriter will.” Award-winning songwriter Billy Harvey says "I'll never share a stage with Kate Howard again. Too endearing. Too clever with language.”

DBS could significantly lessen the severity of her symptoms, providing dramatic improvements in her quality of life.
